We love all the amazing pictures shared on Instagram celebrating the wonderful variety of British birds which is why we're running a competition to recognise the photographers behind the images. And we'll be showcasing some of our favourites here.

To enter the competition simply upload a photograph of a British bird to Instagram using the hashtags #britishbirdlovers and #britishbirdmoments before the 24th February. The photo we like the most will win a gift card and the runner up will win a T-shirt.

Instagram Competition


The competition is open to residents of the UK, the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man. All entrants under the age of 18 must gain parental or guardian permission before entering the Competition and by doing so confirm that they have such permission.

You can submit up to 5 photographs until the competition closes by tagging the British Bird Lovers Instagram page. Each entry must be marked with the hashtags #BritishBirdLovers and #BritishBirdMoments along with the name of the bird and where the photograph was taken.

You can submit your photographs until 11:59 pm Sunday 24th February 2019.


Winner's prize: The winner selected by the judges will win a £50 Love2shopgift card.

Runner up prize: The runner up selected by the judges will win a British Bird Lovers t-shirt in a design of your choice.

All winners will be be announced on the British Bird Lovers Instagram page. The competition will be governed by, and administered in accordance with, the above instructions and the terms & conditions below so please read these carefully before entering the competition and submitting your photographs.


The British Bird Lovers Photography Competition (the "Competition") is owned and administered by British Bird Lovers ("British Bird Lovers").

The entry instructions and additional details above form part of these terms & conditions ("Rules"). By entering the Competition you accept the Rules and British Bird Lovers reserves the right to exclude any entry from the Competition at any time and in its absolute discretion if British Bird Lovers has reason to believe that an entrant has breached the Rules.

The Rules are governed by the laws of England and Wales and the parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. The Rules constitute the entire agreement between British Bird Lovers and any entrant in relation to the Competition.

1. Conditions of Entry

1.1. Employees of British Bird Lovers and/or any immediate family members of such employees are not permitted to enter the Competition.

1.2. Subject to clause 1.1, the Competition is open to residents of the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. Entry is free.

1.3. All entrants aged under the age of 18 must gain parental or guardian permission before entering the Competition and by doing so confirm that they have such permission. It is the responsibility of each entrant (and the entrant’s parent or guardian) to ensure that they have read and will abide by the Rules.

1.4. Entrants are permitted to submit photographs that feature people, however they will need to obtain permission from the individuals they photograph before they can enter the competition.

1.5. A maximum of five entries is permitted.

1.6. Prior to submission, entrants must not have offered their entries for sale, been paid for by any publication, won or been a runner up in any other photographic competition.

1.7. Entrants must not have breached any applicable laws when taking photographs for the purposes of the Competition.

1.8 Photographs must be of British birds that have been photographed in Britain. The official list of British birds can be found here.

2. Photograph Specifications

2.1. Photographs may be digitally enhanced to optimise the photographs. Aspects such as cropping, brightness, contrast and colour balance can all be adjusted, but the content may not be manipulated. British Bird Lovers reserves the right (in their absolute discretion) to exclude any photograph they believe may have been excessively treated so as to alter its authenticity.

3. Intellectual Property Rights

3.1. All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. The entrant must be the sole owner of the copyright to any photographs entered.

3.2. Entrants will retain copyright in the photographs that they submit to British Bird Lovers for the purposes of the Competition. By entering the Competition all entrants grant to British Bird Lovers the right to publish and exhibit their photographs on social media platforms and on British Bird Lovers’ website. No fees will be payable for any of the above uses.

4. Publicity

4.1. If you are a winner of the Competition, you agree to participate in reasonable post Competition publicity and that British Bird Lovers may use your name and likeness for the purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity of the Competition.

5. Data Protection

5.1. The personal data of entrants will be managed by British Bird Lovers in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act 2018.

5.2. British Bird Lovers will collect personal data about entrants (and the entrant’s parent/guardian where applicable) at the time of submission of each entry, and as is otherwise necessary in order to administer the Competition and all associated activities. By entering the Competition you agree that any personal information provided by you to British Bird Lovers may be held and used by British Bird Loveres and its agents to administer and publicise the Competition in accordance with these Rules.

5.3. British Bird Lovers may also use any personal information you supply to it as described in its privacy policy, a copy of which can be seen at

5.4. Entrants may contact British Bird Lovers at any time to update their details and/or preferences regarding the use of their personal data.

6. Liability

6.1. Insofar as is permitted by law, British Bird Lovers and its agents accept no responsibility for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered as a result of entering the Competition or accepting any prize.

7. Prizes

7.1. All prizes are as stated and subject to availability. British Bird Lovers reserves the right (without liability) to substitute any prize with a prize of similar value. There is no cash alternative for the prizes and they are non-transferable. British Bird Lovers and its agents will not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up any prize.

8. Winner announcement and claiming the prizes

8.1. The judges’ decisions will be final and no correspondence can be entered into.

8.2. British Bird Lovers will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winners through the private messenger functions on Instagram. If the winners cannot be contacted or are not available, or have not claimed any prize within 30 days of the announcement of the winners, British Bird Lovers reserves the right to either offer the prize to a runner up, or to re-offer the prize in any future competition.

8.3. British Bird Lovers reserves the right to cancel, void or suspend the Competition or alter any of the Rules at any stage, if deemed necessary in its reasonable opinion, or if circumstances arise outside of its control.
