Review submitted by N Perry from Lancing, West Sussex who travelled in June 2008.

What was the most memorable part of your holiday?
The area is so unspoilt - it's another world. People still work in fields with scythes and horse-drawn ploughs. We saw hardly any cars and you certainly won’t find a Mcdonald’s! So seeing this and all the beautiful nature and wildlife was like stepping back in time.

What birds and other wildlife did you see?
Where to start! 1000's of herons and egrets, White Pelicans, Glossy Ibis, Red-footed Falcons, Kingfishers. Also lots of frogs and beautiful dragon flies. And a couple of snakes. The huge colonies of herons and pelicans alone was worth it.

What advice would you give to other people thinking about booking this holiday?
Talk to the locals – although their English isn’t very good they are really willing to help and will talk to you about local history – we heard some really interesting tales. Also find out where you can get good food!

How would you rate your holiday overall?
This was a wonderful holiday – the way of life is so laid back and gentle. We felt completely destressed the whole time we were there. Thinking of booking for next year again!

Would you recommend this as a bird watching holiday? A holiday in the Danube Delta is perfect for a bird-watcher – or anyone who’s interested in nature or wants some peace and quiet for a few days. Seeing the birds in huge colonies is a unique experience and something I will remember forever.
