After 25 years of trying, The Telegraph's Robin Page finally got to interview one of the great characters of the Isles of Scilly – a war pilot who later studied at Oxford and stumbled into bird watching.
It has taken well over two decades for page to write this article on potter, conservationist and frightening moped rider Humfrey Wakefield. Humfrey has been chairman of the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust and there is still one wildlife development he would like to see – the introduction of Red Squirrels to the island of St Mary's.
