Join the Thames Sailing Barge "Reminder" for a weekend of bird watching on the River Blackwater.
From £300 for two - BOOK NOW
The barge will anchor at the low water at Bradwell or Tellesbury when the ebb tide exposes the huge mud flats which become full of wading birds. These include godwits, widgeon, avocets, curlew, harriers, peregrine, short eared owls, egrets, dunlin, plovers, teal, pintail, shellduck and many more.
The skipper of the Thames barge is a very keen and knowledgeable birder and you can get as involved with the sailing experience as you like. A sailing barge offers gentle sailing and a lot of room on deck and below so will appeal to people who have little or no sailing experience.
The barge departs on Friday evening from Maldon and returns at 3.30 on Sunday afternoon. Accommodation comprises 2 double cabins, 2 twin cabins, 2 cabins with 3 singles. There are also 2 toilets including one with a shower and there is a licenced bar on board. You will receive a full English breakfast each day and a roast lunch on the Sunday.
Although there is no specific level of fitness required for this break, you need to be fairly agile to get on and off the boat.
