10 Films About Birds
The Birds
The story begins innoculously in a pet shop in San Francisco and involves a romantic triangle between spoiled socialite Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren), handsome lawyer Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor), and schoolteacher Annie Hayworh (Suzanne Pleshette). When the story moves to Bodega Bay, the home of Mitch’s mother (Jessica Tandy) the horror begins when Melanie is attacked by a seagull. More and more incidents occur and despite an ornithologist in the town insists that it is wrong to describe the birds’ behaviour the townspeople believe they are experiencing a winged apocalypse.

The March Of The Penguins
In order to return to their breeding grounds for mating season, Emperor penguins need to overcome many obstacles. The film follows one flock for a year as they trek across the Antarctic. Many life experiences are experienced from birth to death in the fight for survival with moments of comedy as well as tragedy.

Howard The Duck
A sci-fi comedy from executive producer George Lucas, Howard is an extra-terrestrial fowl who has accidently been beamed to earth. Physicist Dr. Jenning (Jeffrey Jones) and his assistant Phil (Tim Robbins) go searching for Howard and mayhem ensues as they try and hide Howard from the authorities. Despite the special effects from Industrial Light & Magic Howard The Duck is widely considered one of the worst films ever made.

Fly Away Home
After the death of her mother, 13 year old Amy (Anna Paquin) goes to live with her father, Thomas (Jeff Daniels). Amy has never had a close relationship with her father so finds the first few months difficult. However, when she finds a clutch of eggs in an abandoned nest, she brings them home to incubate and a few weeks later a flock of Canadian Geese hatch. Unfortunately without their mother to show them they are unable to fly south for winter so Thomas comes up with a solution – teach them to follow Amy as she flies in an Ultralight glider. Based on a true story, Fly Away Home is a charming film that chronicles Amy’s adventures that eventually bring her closer to her father.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull
A flock of seagulls spend their days foraging in the rubbish left by fishing boats. Jonathan (voiced by James Franciscus) leaves the flock to follow his dream of flying round the world until he eventually reaches an aviary heaven where he meets Maureen Seagull (voiced by Juliet Mills). He returns back to the flock to share his experiences but is rejected by the flock until he heals a seagull that has died. Based on the novella by Richard Bach, which is regarded as a spiritual classic, the film was poorly received by critics. The film score was by Neil Diamond and did you know that Justin Bieber has a tattoo inspired by Jonathan Livingston Seagull on his hip?
